Swimming
Niamh McNamara, 5th Class, recently became our first ever pupil to represent Ardnagrath N.S. at the All Ireland Minor Schools Competition, having qualified at provincial level in both the 50m Back Stroke and 50m Buterfly.

Niamh is a member of Athlone Swimming Club’s Elite squad.  This group of swimmers compete at provincial, national and international level.  Fitness levels at this level are of a highest standard and training involves 8 sessions (10 hours per week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 06.15)!!  Last year Niamh attended a training camp in Ponds Forge in Sheffield and in June of this year, in preparation for the nationals, Athlone Swimming Club will travel to Ligano in Italy for a week of intensive long course training (50m pool).

Niamh has won medals gold, silver and bronze at both national and provincial competitions.  Watch out London 2012 and well done Niamh, we are extremely proud of you here at Ardngrath N.S.
